This would only be a surprise to people who have not taken the time to read the manual, because on page 212 of the owners manual, it states clearly that "Going less than 35mph, push the accelerator pedal halfway down", if going 35mph hour or more, push the accelerator all the way down". The other thing that is somewhat amusing is that reviews have mentioned that in terms of harder acceleration on the Trax, you really need to "stand on the pedal" for maximum acceleration. I do believe that the 6-speed transmission on the Trax makes a big difference in terms of gearing, while the CVT seemed to constantly struggle to find the right gear. The Honda also had CVT (continuous variable transmission) and was a 5-speed, where the Trax does not have CVT and has a 6-speed transmission. The Civic always felt like it had a "piano on it's back" so to speak, regardless of whether it was driving up a hill or on level ground. My previous vehicle, a Honda Civic EX-L, which actually had slightly more HP (1.8L In-Line 4) than the Trax (1.4L In-Line 4), couldn't touch the acceleration of the Trax. The engine on this vehicle handles it like a champ! I can pass other vehicles with relative ease, acceleration is more than adequate, and the engine never feels like it's struggling. I live in … the mountains of Colorado, and a large portion of my commute to work consists of high altitude driving, including inclines with a 6% grade or higher. My experience so far could not have been more different. AutoCheck Vehicle History SummaryĪ lot of car for the money! Bought my 2016 Trax LTZ "Midnight Edition" while Chevy was running a promotion offering 16% off sticker price, so I saved over $4500! First thing I want to address is the engine, which both professional reviewers and others have listed as "sluggish", "slow", "tepid" etc., you get the idea. I like the car a lot except for the transmission issue which I learned can now be prevented with a new style bypass valve kit which I bought on my own. would be paying for the parts and labor - why I needed to know about this was beyond me. They were more concerned about which dept. Communication was horrible with this company and the concern that I just spent $27,000 dollars didn't mean a thing. So be warned this dealership sells defective cars and does not stand by them when caught. My 30 day warranty ran out with the car being in the shop more than half that time. The service advisor said it wasn't needed for the torque converter repair and didn't give me an opportunity to explain our agreement with Michael. Michael agreed and a couple weeks later we got the car and parts EXCEPT the rear main seal - a fifteen dollar part. I proposed to have them supply all the parts for repair of the torque converter (my son is a mechanic - and he would do it) plus a rear main engine seal to replace since it would be open at that time. NEVER did he respond to me - not by call or by email. I sent emails to the general manager of the dealership to talk to him and left phone messages. I did and he apologized for the lack of communication but then said as a "courtesy" they would cover half the cost to replace the torque converter which he said wasn't "normally" considered part of the drive train! So long story short - the torque converter was bad PRIOR to selling it to me and they had an idea of it because I was told the transmission fluid was flushed as part of the prep to sell the car. Again after a few more days with no call - I called again and was told to talk to Michael. After a couple days I had to call and find out that the torque converter was bad and "they" were working out what to do. to have it checked out along with few other things and left the car there. We drove it the next day and immediately realized there was a transmission problem - a shudder - and later found out this was common with this transmission. Our salesman was very nice and handled the purchase well. This was our largest car purchase ever - even though it was a common deal for the dealer it was not for us. We purchased a used GMC Yukon XL last month. Located in Brattleboro, VT / 60 miles away from Worcester, MA
